The Art of Growing Food

with Ellen Ogden

This meeting will be held online via Zoom due to the COVID pandemic. Register for this meeting and get a Zoom link by clicking HERE.

Ellen Ecker Ogden is a Vermont food and garden writer and author of numerous books on food and gardens featuring her own kitchen garden designs to inspire gardeners to elevate their vegetable gardens into a work of art. She cofounded The Cook's Garden seed catalog, introducing cooks and gardeners to European and American specialty vegetables, herbs, and flowers. She graduated with a degree in fine arts and attended cooking school with Marcella Hazan in Venice, Italy, and at the Ballymaloe School in Shanagarry, Ireland.

She has written five books on cooking and garden, and continues to teach and lecture on food and kitchen garden design. Her articles have appeared in The New York Times, Martha Stewart Living, Better Homes and Gardens, Country Gardens, and others. Her newest book, published in 2021 is, “The New Heirloom Garden: Designs, Recipes, and Heirloom Plants for Cooks Who Love to Garden”.

The Art of Growing Food brings art to the vegetable garden through plants, structures, and classic European potager design. Ellen will share kitchen garden designs to inspire us with fresh ideas. Whether renovating an existing garden or revitalizing your edible landscape, this presentation offers plenty of hands-on advice to elevate ordinary to extraordinary.

A kitchen garden is where the home and the garden merge. Using her six steps to successful kitchen garden design, Ellen will show you how to design and grow a garden that is both beautiful and bountiful. Start with a plan on paper, then add structure and areas of comfort.  Learn what to grow for the best flavor, fragrance, and  how to design the garden for beauty and productivity and to be a sanctuary of out door living.
