General Membership Meetings

The monthly Ozaukee Master Gardener General Membership meetings are open to the public.

Here's our speaker line-up for 2021. Zoom registration is required for these meetings, and that link is shared with the group through meeting updates and event promotion.

April 22: Niki Jabbour will speak on "Growing under Cover," something she knows quite a bit about as a year-round gardener living in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She'll share tips growing vegetables all year as well as some of the unique and unusual vegetables she grows in her garden. She is the author of four innovative vegetable gardening books including her latest, "Growing Under Cover" and "Niki Jabbour's Veggie Garden Remix."

June 24: Dr. Lee Reich will speak on growing espalier fruit trees. He is an avid farmdener (more than a gardener, less than a farmer) with graduate degrees in soil science and horticulture. After working in plant and soil research with the USDA and Cornell University, he shifted gears and turned to writing, lecturing, and consulting.

His books include  A Northeast Gardener’s Year, The Pruning Book, Weedless Gardening, Uncommon Fruits for Every Garden, Landscaping With Fruit, and Grow Fruit Naturally.

August 26: Dr. Mary Meyer will speak on growing ornamental grasses in cold climates. She manages North American Plant Collections Consortium Ornamental Grass Collection at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum and is a professor and extension horticulturist with the University of Minnesota. She is the author of several books on ornamental grasses.

September 23: Dan Long, owner of Brushwood Nursery, will speak on growing clematis and vines. In addition to owning one of the country's largest clematis nurseries, he is the vice president of the International Clematis Society.

October 28: Wisconsin's own Mark Dwyer will be our speaker. Topic TBD.

Each monthly meeting begins at 7 p.m. with a presentation on a horticulture topic given by an expert in that field.

The presentation generally runs one hour, and is followed by the monthly meeting.
